Meet Ali M. Umar, MA, APCC, AMFT

As a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist, Ali specializes in working with teens and young adults, couples, and those dealing with addiction/substance use disorders. Ali’s hope is that his clients will find him to be a genuine and caring person who they can confide in and who will assist them on their journey to their goals.

Ali enjoys helping others to reach their goals in life. The concept that we are all seeking our own defined goals and safety and are connected to our societies, unites us in our humanity. Along the path to those individual goals, we may take a wrong turn and go down a path that once worked for different circumstances, but will not suffice for the current situation.

Ali uses an integrated approach, which is a combination of CBT, REBT, family systems, Adlerian psychology and employs techniques from Gottman method Couples Therapy and from EMDR.

Ali was born in New York City, NY and graduated with a BS from City University of New York then spent 10 years working and traveling in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia before moving to the Fresno area and becoming a certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. Ali has over 12 years of experience in SUD/addiction counseling.

A trauma is very similar to a splinter in the hand. Left alone it will continue to hurt and fester, it may even become infected. The solution is to remove the splinter and that will require digging it out. This may temporarily cause more pain than what one is feeling currently, but that pain is only temporary and after it there can be healing and peace. Such is often the case with therapy.
