Dr. Sergio Pereyra is a passionate Marriage and Family Therapist who strongly believes in empowering those who are underprivileged and underserved. He is a professor in the Counselor Education program at Fresno State University and has research publications in refereed journals regarding Latino couples’ relationship satisfaction and Latino family dynamics.
Sergio specializes in helping couples who struggle with intimacy due to communication problems, sexual disorders, infidelity, trust issues, and other causes - including those who feel that they have 'fallen out of love'. He also has expertise in treating pornography and other sexual addictions, adolescent issues, children with behavioral problems, spirituality issues, and anxiety.
As a Latino AMFT with a strong cultural identity, Sergio is not only able to communicate perfectly in Spanish with Spanish-speaking clients, but he also has a deep understanding of cultural nuances that could influence behaviors and treatment outcomes in therapy. He also has extensive experience working with couples, families and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and socio-economic levels.
“I’ve always had a big heart and an altruistic disposition, but as I have gained experience over the years as an MFT, I not only gained the skills needed to help people through life’s challenges but I have learned to really ‘be’ with my clients. As my clients share their hopes, dreams, fears, struggles and most personal and intimate experiences with me, I can’t help but hold these experiences as sacred and I feel extremely blessed to join them in their progress towards happiness.”
